Under California Code of Regulations, Title 8 (T8 CCR), employers must protect their workers from heat illness, in both indoor and outdoor work sites. Employers are required to have a written Heat Illness Prevention Plan. The plan may be stand-alone or included in an existing plan, such as the employer’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program. All employees must receive heat illness prevention training before beginning any work where the risk of heat illness exists, indoor and outdoor. Training must include specific provisions of your employer’s policies and prevention plan.

- Risk Factors for heat illness
- Acclimatization – who needs to be acclimated and how to acclimate yourself
- The importance of drinking water and tips for avoiding hydration
- Why rest is important
- Heat illness monitoring, first-aid and emergency response procedures
- Control measures
- Supervisor responsibilities for monitoring the weather

Measures employers must take to protect workers from heat illness, both indoor and outdoor, include, but are not limited to: providing water, rest, cool down areas, cooling down the work area under certain conditions and training.
Supervisors must receive training before supervising employees who will be performing indoor or outdoor work that could result in exposure to heat. Training must include specific provisions of your employer’s policies and prevention plan. Topics in this course include:
