Suicide Awareness, Prevention, and Response
Creating positive school environments by building awareness, opening lines of communication between students, staff, and parents, and quickly responding.
Our Suicide Prevention Program is based on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s recommendations. We’ve distilled their findings into four components to create a program that districts can implement with minimal hassle. The goal is to create a culture where everyone can recognize the signs of troubled students and understands how to report concerning behavior. Schools have the flexibility to pick which components they’d like to implement as they develop a plan that suits their needs.
Program Components
Report Online, Mobile, Phone
Report anonymously through our online, iOS app, Android app, telephone tipline, or transcribed voice message. Available in multiple languages.
Urgent Response / Monitoring
24/7 monitoring of all reports including a trained PublicSchoolWORKS team who reviews every report upon submission. Due to the nature of these reports, we will contact district administrators via telephone, text, and email to alert them of this urgent concern.
Reporting Management
Communication and documentation of student and parent reports to improve concerns response time, data analysis for addressing safety concerns, and generate state reports.
Trend Reporting
Provides administrators with trend data that details who, which student groups, what types of concerns are being reported and where safety concerns are occurring.
Staff Awareness & Training
Staff training on how to recognize the signs of troubled students and understand how to report and respond to concerning behavior. These trainings include Suicide Prevention and Response, Self-Injury, Depression in Students, Trauma Informed Care and Response, and Mental Emotional and Behavioral Disorders in Students.
Parent & Community Awareness
Parent and community portal providing access to trainings, reporting systems, and resources.
Task Reminders
Monthly and annual reminders for administrators to perform key tasks such as postings, staff and student awareness, updating contacts for urgent notifications, and meeting state mandates. This system includes communication, tracking, supervisor follow-up and data analysis.
Resources Library
Documents to help administrators introduce safety reporting tools to staff, students, parents, and the community. This includes posters based on grade level, ID card stickers, and a toolkit which includes student instructions, website content, button images, sample press release, parent text message, parent letters and sample social media posts.
