Belle Plaine Unified School District 357 (KS)

Division Overview
Schools: 3
Students: 620
Employees: 90

Belle Plaine Unified School District 357’s Superintendent, Dr. Rose Kane, faced a crisis. Since 2012, the district had been investing in PublicSchoolWORKS’ EmployeeSafe Suite, appreciating its services. After the 2014-2015 school year, however, the state cut Belle Plaine USD 357’s funds dramatically – forcing administrators to reassess every district expenditure.

The Questions Asked

To scrutinize every expense, Dr. Kane developed the following questions to determine whether the benefits were worth the cost:

  1. What is the need and how great is it?
  2. Is it a matter of compliance?
  3. Will this make a process or job more efficient?
  4. Is there a way to negotiate pricing or scale down the service?
  5. Will employees use the new service or product?

Eventually, she asked the questions of the EmployeeSafe Suite.

The Answers Given

Like all public-school districts, Belle Plaine USD 357 must abide by federal and state requirements for staff safety training.

Prior to the district’s investment in EmployeeSafe, the district’s lone nurse had labored under an overwhelming workload, treating students needing aid while, at the same time, attempting to provide training to staff on numerous subjects, including bloodborne pathogens.

The EmployeeSafe Suite not only reduced the nurse’s training workload, but it also increased the number of successful trainings completed.

Dr. Kane reviewed how, after its initial set up, the EmployeeSafe Staff Training System automatically emails each employee with links to their assigned online courses. Each course has a deadline for completion, but employees can complete the courses when and wherever they choose. To ensure employees complete the training in a timely manner, the system periodically reminds them to complete their training before the deadline.  If an employee fails to do this, the system automatically sends non-compliance reports to administration.

What’s more, all training records are centrally located online, so, in the event of an audit, districts can easily prove their compliance.

An Easy Decision

In a time of tight budgets, Dr. Kane determined that the district’s investment in the EmployeeSafe Suite not only maximized efficiency for staff training, among other benefits. It also saved money.

With more efficient safety systems, the district no longer had to worry about the financial consequences of non-compliance with regulations. It avoided paying employees to complete tiresome, costly paperwork. And, with fewer accidents, insurance costs stayed lower, too.

For Belle Plaine USD 357, It was an easy decision: the EmployeeSafe Suite provides significant cost-savings and a peace of mind that feels priceless.
